My hopes and fears for this class are listed as the following:
I hope to get better with my writing both creatively and technically. I hope to make some creative content with my blogs/vlogs. I hope to enjoy my time in class with everyone. I find it a little intimidating that I will be changing professors three times throughout the semester. Four professors means four different expectations which could lead to four times the anxiety… just kidding, but nevertheless, it is an experience that I am not at all familiar with. I think digital humanities can make me more flexible in terms of producing works of my own that can be shared with anyone who is interested in reading/ watching it.
Let’s talk about a logical fallacy that I’ve been confronted with thanks to a certain someone on campus. The quote began with “I’m pretty sure I am one hundred percent right when I say…” and the end of the quote does not need to be mentioned for two reasons: one is that the error lies in just this part and the other reason is simply because I have forgotten it. What exactly is wrong with this? Well, you absolutely know what is wrong with it; this is completely contradictory. How can one be “pretty sure” that they are one hundred percent right? “Pretty sure” does not belong in this sentence, and if it did, (which it did because this individual was in fact wrong about whatever we were discussing) then what needs to be booted out is that one hundred percent. We must now decrease the percentage because the sureness level leaves us with no concrete resolve. Why on earth am I stressing so much about a simple mistake? This makes me look like a criticizing schmuck and I am a criticizing schmuck, but only when I think it matters! There are two extremely positive results that come from confronting this mistake: one result is that the message was noticed, and corrected, which shows the progression of human intelligence, and the other result (which I think is the most important of the two) is that I get to tease the person every time we argue and I say “I’m pretty sure I am one hundred percent right.”
