Last semester I realized I needed another 400 level English elective in order to graduate this May. There were a variety of classes listed, but none fit into my schedule. Basically, I am in this class because it was the only 400 level English elective that would not interfere with my other classes. I was very skeptical about taking it because it is such a long class and I didn’t really know what digital humanities was…or is. The first day of class was helpful and eliminated some of my confusion.
What I find interesting are all the useful ways I can implement technology into my classroom. Though my concentration is English, some of the tools on mapping will be helpful if I am providing my students with a historical background about an author or the setting of a book. I am really excited to learn more about the Cortland Fire. Creating the digital museum is an idea that I can use in the classroom, so I cannot wait to start that.
The title of the class is very intimadating. What I fear is that this class becomes more of a burden rather than a tool. I have taken a class that focused on using media and digital tools. Instead of helping me, it felt like busy work.
